Function Fit at Melbourne Osteohealth is Clinical Pilates… BUT BETTER!

Function Fit  is an awesome combination of Clinical Pilates and Whole Body Functional Training. It’s designed to improve strength, flexibility and stamina while directly addressing the causes of your pain or injury.

We begin with a Comprehensive Functional Assessment and a chat about your goals, this ensures you get a tailored plan to meet your needs.

How we’re different

A standard injury assessment is done with the patient on a table. It looks at joint motion and soft tissue length & tension to identify the structures causing pain.

This is a sensible first step but it tells us little about how much of the available joint movement you can actually use or control; or how multiple joints work together or how they behave when loaded by gravity.

We take a step back and look at how you use your body. We look at how you perform activities that isolate the injured area and then we look at how you integrate that area in to whole body movements that you would normally do day to day.

This allows us to assess mobility and stability in key movement patterns, with a range of loads and challenges, to give us a real time view of what might be going wrong.

Why it matters

Musculoskeletal pain typically has both biomechanical and neurological elements and current evidence suggests we get the best outcomes when we address both. Targeted clinical exercise is a great way to quieten over-sensitive nerves and improve movement, strength and control in all the areas that contribute to your pain.

“A standard exam tells us what’s wrong with you while a functional approach tells us why it’s happened…

This is critical if we are to address the underlying causes and minimise re-injury risk!”
