We all know how tempting it can be to hide under the doona and steal a little more time in your warm, cosy bed when it’s cold & dark outside…and the temptation is never greater than at this time of year!

Most adults need between 7 and 9 hours of sleep each night, varying with age, sex, health status and individual need. And while we still have lots of questions about what sleep actually is and why we need to do so much of it we know there are lots of health risks associated with getting too much or too little sleep.

A simple strategy to ensure good sleep hygiene is to develop a healthier sleep routine; so work out how much sleep makes you feel best and then try to get to bed and wake around the same time each day. Once you’re up and about be sure to try and get some exposure to a little daylight to let your brain know it’s day time.

These simple strategies can  help maintain your health and well-being at any time of year.
