Smashed Avo’ Day

Avocados. Toast. Coffee. Hipsters.

Australians love avocados and are lucky to get them from March to November each year. There are four main varieties grown in Australia: Hass, Shepard, Reed and Wurtz.

60,000 tonnes are produced annually, equating to nearly 3kg per person!

Head down to your local farmers market – or even your nearest avocado tree and get some green goodness on your plate!

As part of a healthy, balanced diet, avocados can:
• Lower LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol – important for cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of heart attack, stroke and atherosclerosis.
• Assist with weight and blood glucose management.
• Assist with maintaining eye health.

How much is a serve of avocado? 50g or about 1/4 of an avocado. The good news is that although it is classified as a fruit, it can also count towards your vegetable intake.
