Meet Carlton Osteopath – Dr Paul Attenborough

Paul’s interest in healthcare began when he was 18 years old. He signed up for his first Kung Fu class. After experiencing for himself, just how critical physical exercise, mindfulness and good nutrition were for his health, he decided to draw on his own experiences and learn how to provide quality health care to the public.

Paul’s first steps into healthcare were taken when he began working as a Remedial Massage Therapist in 2005. It was during his time working alongside Osteopaths in a clinic in Sydney’s CBD that he realised how holistic and comprehensive the Osteopathic approach was. He knew then that Osteopathy had to be the next part of his personal and professional journey.

Paul studied to become and Osteopath at Victoria University. He completed a Bachelor of Science (Clinical Science) and a Master of Health Science (Osteopathy) and upon graduating as an Osteopath he began practicing at Inner West Osteopathy in Newtown, Sydney. Since moving to back to Victoria a few years ago, Paul has joined us at Melbourne Osteohealth and is available for consultation on Saturdays.

When he’s not in at MOH Paul is a practicing academic and holds a Senior Lecturer role at Melbourne’s Endeavour College where he teaches into the Health Science and Clinical Myotherapy programs.

Reflecting a strong interest in biomechanics and neurophysiology, treatment sessions with Paul will involve a thorough physical examination to identify postural imbalances and aberrant movement patterns. After gaining an understanding of why you are experiencing your symptoms a treatment plan can be developed and implemented. Paul will also look for any other conditions that may require medical or specialist attention.

With more than a decade’s experience as a manual therapist Paul is highly skilled at using myofascial release techniques, muscle energy techniques, joint manipulations and exercise prescription to help restore balance to the body and reduce discomfort in his patients. By the end of each session with Paul you should have a better understanding of the nature of your condition, how to best manage it and how you can return to a better state of health and well-being.

Paul is passionate about his role as an Allied Healthcare Provider and always endeavours to use a team approach when helping people improve their health. Paul is happy to communicate with your GP, Medical Specialist, Counsellor, Naturopath or Exercise Physiologist to ensure optimal health across all aspects of your life.

He finds it both challenging and rewarding to work with patients with nerve pain and neurological symptoms and enjoys seeing patients with long-standing issues find new hope and take control of their health.

Neck pain, headaches and nerve entrapments are his particular strong suit however through his extensive experience he does enjoy treating people from all walks of life and getting their health back on track. He is a recognised WorkCover Provider and can assist you in your recovery and return to work.

Paul likes to stay active and has continued martial arts since his first class and finds it gives him a great balance of mindfulness, coordination and flexibility training.

Paul is also a passionate music enthusiast. In his spare time he plays the electric bass and double bass and is currently teaching himself how to play the piano. He lives a very busy life… which has just got busier with the birth of his beautiful daughter recently!
